Anglican Parish of Derby and Blackville

Sunday School update, October 15, 2023:

Sunday School for the Parish started on October 15 at St. Agnes’, Gray Rapids. Classes are held at 10 am on Sundays. Currently there are ten students registered, but there is always room for others. The theme for this term is taken from an old children’s hymn, “I’ll be a Sunbeam”, also known as “Jesus wants me for a sunbeam”.
Through using this hymn and Scripture, the students will be growing in their understanding of what it means to be a disciple (follower) of Jesus. They will study the stories of others who have dedicated themselves to follow God’s plan for His people and to learn from Christ’s example what it means to be loving, honest, caring, kind, and serving others by serving Him.
Please keep the students and those working with them in your daily prayers. May we all grow in our understanding of our faith to be true disciples in whom others see the love and light Christ calls us to share.
The Sunday School is very grateful for those who have stepped up to help with their program, but would love to have at least one more teacher. Please consider whether God is calling you to join in the learning and fun by offering to help out with this important work.
Enjoy these pictures from Sunday and, if you click on the link at the end of the lyrics, you too can sing along!
Jesus wants me for a sunbeam,
To shine for Him each day;
In every way try to please Him,
At home, at school, at play.
Refrain
A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
Jesus wants me for a sunbeam;
A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
I’ll be a sunbeam for Him.
Jesus wants me to be loving,
And kind to all I see;
Showing how pleasant and happy
His little one can be.
Refrain
I will ask Jesus to help me
To keep my heart from sin,
Ever reflecting His goodness,
And always shine for Him.
Refrain
I’ll be a sunbeam for Jesus;
I can if I but try;
Serving Him moment by moment,
Then live with Him on high.
Refrain

September 23, 2023 – From our Sunday School Superintendent: “So far we have 11 children enrolled in Sunday School . Always room for more. I am hoping that Kerri-Ann, and Connie Hambrook will teach again. We have 2 preschoolers, 4 in grade 1, 3 in grade 3. and 2 older girls. We can use more helpers. Thank you to all parents and grandparents.” Are you able to help by volunteering – even if it is only once in a while?
